Marian Free

Dr Marian Free is an Anglican priest, academic, and community leader with a 26‑year ministry career in Australia, combining pastoral work, teaching, and advocacy for women’s ordination anglican focus.

Marian Free felt called to the priesthood in 1980 while living in New Zealand, but at the time women could not be ordained in the Anglican Church in Australia anglican focus. She became a founding member of the Movement for the Ordination of Women (MOW) in Brisbane, helping to raise awareness, write papers, and organise debates to support women’s ordination anglican focus. She was ordained in 1995 anglican focus.

Over her career, Marian served in various pastoral roles, including as Rector of the Parish of Hamilton and Canon of St John’s Cathedral anglican focus+1. She was also a member of the Diocesan Council Saint Francis College. Her ministry has focused on liturgy, worship, and personal pastoral care, with a strong emphasis on the Gospel’s transformative power anglican focus.

Marian holds a PhD in the Letters of Paul from the University of Queensland, a Diploma of Education from Sydney Teacher’s College, and a BA (Psychology) from UQ Saint Francis College. She has been a sessional lecturer in Paul’s letters, New Testament studies, and Christian worship at St Francis College anglican focus. She has also been an Associate Lecturer at Charles Sturt University and a lecturer at the University of Divinity
